EMC beefs up Mass. presence with Cambridge lab, MIT sponsorship deal - Triangle Business Journal:

The Hopkinton, Mass., storage and information managementggiant (NYSE: EMC) said Wednesday the Mediza Lab sponsorship is one of severak initiatives coordinated out of EMC Researchb Cambridge, which will be located at 11 Cambridge Ctr. in Mass. The center will house EMC’s security-businesse research lab, RSA Laboratories, as well as abouf a dozen researchers, technologists and businesz leadersacross EMC’s business units. The compangy also has research facilities in China andSants Clara, Calif.
“Research and advanced technology groups across EMC, along with our global university research partners, are discoveringy and exploring new technologies that will shape the futured of digital information,” said Jeff Nick, EMC senior vice presidenrt and chief technology officer, in a “This is an incrediblew opportunity for EMC to bring togetherd some of the world’s leading research minds and innovators in areasw such as personal information management, information integration and cloudr computing.” As a consortium sponsor of the MIT Media Lab, EMC will be able to acceses the center’s research on how people use and interactt with new technologies.
EMC said its initiaol collaboration will be on new models for data ownership and interfaces for business transactions and health care IT A consortium sponsorshipcosts $200,009 per year for a minimum of three Sponsors receive full intellectual propertyh rights to technology developed at the lab during theirt sponsorship. The announcement comes a week afte r EMC and a group of universities and technologyh companies announced the development of a high performances computing research facilityin Mass. Other tech giant have built dedicated R&D lab in Cambridge in recen t years.
